Post Macro

Hello

I'm looking to buy a 1:1 macro lens for my nikon D3100. Can anybody recommend a cheap lens, say £200?

Please advise

Shaun

Shaun at that price you might be better off trying second hand but these lenses tend to hold on to their price .

I had a quick look on warehouse express.com and they have the Sigma 50mm 2.8 EX DG Macro for £259.99 , but at that focal length you would really need to get very close to your subject to get the full 1:1 ratio .

Shaun, have a look on Ebay. The Tamron SP90 and Sigma 105mm routinely go for around the £200 mark. Be aware that not all of them will auto focus on the D3100 though.

You could also try the 50mm f1/.8 with Kenko extension tubes. I've use this before and it gives surprisingly good results.

I have a Tamron SP90 and it's a great lens. I pair it with a D90 though but I prefer to manually focus, although autofocus is good to start off with.

Be careful. I've seen 1:2.5 described as 'Macro', so make sure you can do 1:1 without an intermediary extension ring.
