Smile Introduce yourself!

It seems like we've got quite a few members who read but don't comment. Of course you're quite welcome to just log in and view, but if you fancy joining in the conversations this might be a good way to start!

Let me start. Ahem...

I'm very new here: I started at Future Publishing working on Digital Camera last week as community editor. I'm an amateur photographer and I use a Nikon D80 (yes, yes, I need to upgrade!). My Flickr page is www.flickr.com/photos/_samba_ and my Twitter handle is @samkabam.

I'm enjoying reading the comments on the forums so far, but I most enjoy viewing the images in the galleries. There are some seriously talented people here and I'm keen to share these images online as I believe they should be seen!

I'll do my very best to read through your comments, take your opinions and suggestions on board, and try to improve the forum community experience for everyone. Pleased to meet you. :-)

Hi Sam,

Perhaps we should start by welcoming you to the forum, although I don't expect you to be raising many questions, being surrounded by experts as you are.

Hi Sam,

Welcome to the forum.

I have been a member since befóre PhotoRadar took over. I 'started out' here, when I took up digital photography, so to speak.

Over the years, I made many friends, some of whom have become relatively close.

When the site changed to PhotoRadar, many left, disappointed with the changes. I stayed on, but became less faithful over the years, nd joined other sites as well.
Losing your gallery twice in a relatively short time, is not something people take kindly to. Warning them that it is going to happen, does not make it that much more acceptable.

At the moment I'm having a love-hate relationship with the weekly competition; the only part of the site that I regularly visit nowadays.

I believe some changes were made to the galleries recently, but I haven't checked them out yet. I can't say I am particularly enamoured with the gallery system, but maybe it is better now, after the latest changes.

I am one of those people who regularly read the forums, but often can't be bothered to react, or even to sign in.

I realise this all sounds rather negative, but from a lively, friendly site, it has dwindled to a rather dull happening, even though some of the 'oldies'* are still around, and as helpful and friendly as ever.

So, you still got some of the foundations in tact, it's now up to you, to build it up again to something people cannot bear to stay away from!

Good luck!

Oh I use a Sony DSC-HX100V bridge camera!

Reinardina.

* Maybe I should explain, that 'Oldies' in this case, does not necessarily mean old in years, but highly experienced photographers, who often started out with film, but have embraced the digital age with gusto. This treasure trove of experience has been lost.

Hi Sam

I am normally an IT guy in Toronto, ON. I got my Canon 450D for my birthday in 2009. I have been a Photo Plus subscriber since then and a some times buyer of DCW. I find British magazines superior to American ones. I have subscribed to Outdoor Photography Canada before, mostly because it was an excellent deal at a camera show.

I am the father of Emily and Chloe, both 5.

I joined up not long before the switch from the old DCM site to PhotoRadar. I volunteered to be a moderator and try to do that well. We have had very little guidance in doing so.

I cannot compare much to the old DCM site, but I know the galleries and the content were a great loss with the switch to PR. I do know that most of the annoyances during the beta test of PR were never addressed. The galleries were never very easy to just flow through and browse photos. There were a number of forum quirks as well. Some of those are gone now, but it is still not easy to post photos into the forums.

The new galleries are still...meh. They are not easy to just browse nor do they seem very user friendly. I gave up on here with the switch and put my photos on Flickr now.

I do wish to be part of the solution and not the problem, but in the past our input has fallen on deaf ears.

Hi Im Christine, also known as DD. I have a canon 60D, with a MacPro and CS3 to work on. I learn every day, something new about my camera or maybe a new technique, hint ot tip. Have been on here just over a year and have made many friends and learned most of what I know. I love entering the weekly and monthly competitions and like to look at galleries and learn from them

I'm a chatterbox and by the amount of posts I have made, you can probably tell. I made the step up from my Canon 1000D to my 60D in November and am loving it. I'm building up my equipment slowly and my newest purchase is an off camera flash. My newest 3 techniques are Panoramas, PhotoJoiners and Tryptych's. Sorry, I could talk all night but will stop now!!!!

Hi Sam! I am a brand new member here and was never a member of the old forums so I can't input on any of the technical stuff going on here. I am a member of a couple of other forums however and they are so big that it is hard to get input on your photos or for anyone to look at them for that matter. I live in Texas in the U.S. but I absolutely love DC Magazine! I just stumbled on to it a few months ago and my hubby bought me a subscription for Christmas. I found my love for photography when my little boy was born 8 years ago. I shoot with a Canon 7D with 5 lenses. My favorite thing to shoot is Landscapes although I shoot anything and everything and love to experiment with new techniques. I am just an amateur and shoot mainly for the joy of it but I do have an online gallery with a shopping cart to sale fine art prints at SmugMug. The members here have made me feel very welcome and I hope this will be a forum that I can actively participate in and become a part of! I look forward to seeing this site grow in the future because it really is one of the best photography magazines I have read!

Hi all . I'm new here too.
I live in Trieste , in the NE Italy . I bought my first DSLR at the end of 2010 , I have done a wonderful gift to myself . Since then , my passion for photography is growing increasingly .
I love DCM magazine : I have read other photography magazines but as DCM no one is : I just love it
Unfortunately, among the many commitments there is very little time for my passion .
I hope to improve my technique and all the rest , by attending this beautiful lforum .
Excuse my bad english ...
Ciao

Welcome Christiana. Don't worry about your bad English, it's very much better than my bad Italian.
Ask any questions you want and we're sure to have someone who knows the answer.
Good luck
