Changes to the gallery!

Hello all!

After reading your comments and monitoring how the gallery is working, we feel that it would be best to set a limited selection of categories to choose from.

This would mean that when you upload your photos, you simply choose which gallery to assign your picture to, rather than creating your own and having too many to choose from.

Some of the categories will be kept, so the images you have uploaded to these galleries will stay where they are. Any pictures assigned to categories that will be removed will automatically go into 'General Photos'. If you wish to reassign your photos from this category, you can easily do so by clicking 'Image Tools' in the top right of your photo.

If there are any categories you feel we have missed out, just let us know and we'll consider adding them.

Thanks for all of your comments! With your help and input, we'll continue to work towards improving the forum and gallery.

Just looking at the new categories and no Urbex. Which category does a photo of an abandoned mortuary or decaying psychiatric hospital go into now?

Would I be correct in saying you've left the category manager active? so people are (could) still going to add categories. Not sure if it's because I'm in the mod group, but I still see it.

This has got to be considered a giant leap backwards IMO, people love to have their own galleries and albums. and this is offered on most if not all photography based sites.

And quoting your text above, "With your help and input, we'll continue to work towards improving the forum and gallery. " with regards to the gallery, all help and input has been firmly ignored as far as I can see. Using a cut down version of photopost vb instead of the proper Photopost pro, or similar is the downfall here.

I know a lot of you think I'm moaning all the time, but I've tried from day one to be constructive and get things improved around here. It hasn't worked, and I've wasted too many hours of my life trying, so you'll be relieved to hear I've given up now.

By the way, this isn't aimed at you personally samcliffe as you've just joined the team, so please don't take it that way.

Shame on DCW allowing Lurkalot to give up. I can't understand management allowing this new site to fail like Photoradar did, to upset the people who's input makes any site/forum a success. We lost a lot of great members after changing from DCM to Photoradar and now the same thing is going to happen again. It seems history will repeat it's self and makes one wonder how long this new site will last?

I think what I have noticed is the amount of people who post their photographs to the special interest forums sometimes daily but never bother to offer feedback to anyone else. And I don't mean reciprocal back-patting, I mean honest criticism. Also if you leave feedback for someone they don't always have the courtesy to acknowledge it. It is little things like that that can cause people to leave or simply not bother. I thnk it is down to everyone who uses this site to try and make it work. I will be honest, I just don't like this format as much as the older one. I was always happy with the older format and never understood what the problem was. The process of putting a photograph into a forum post has not changed as far as I can see.

Hi all - having the mag's staff comment on people's photos to offer a friendly and helpful critique is something that we are discussing today. I agree with you that it would be a positive step forward. Lurkalot, sorry you've decided to give up on forum. It certainly is a shame and I hope that you can reconsider!

Hmm, I'm not giving up on the forum, I'm giving up trying to improve the gallery situation. Clearly the team have their ideas, and that's all that matters. Whatever I think won't change that tbh.

It appears that the rules for posting a link in a forum has changed without informing people!
