Filters

Hi all, I'm a new lad on the block. Anyone any idea where I can purchase a C Pl filter for a Nikon D60 52 mm. I would like it to be a Nikon make if possible.Many Thanks to one and all.

I do not think Nikon makes filters. Poking around their website does not turn any up.

Nikon do make filters and a google search will find you some. had a quick look myself and saw some 72mm ones so they are out there even though I thought they did not do them.

Pretty soon there will be people saying the usual comments re: filters like - you don`t need many , do it in software, you really only need a CPL and neutral density filters - not grads, and why stick a piece of cheap glass in front of expensive lenses. I think the CPL filter is the most useful and use it often on landscapes. Lee are seen as the best filteres along with B&W and they cost. If you can`t run to their chages check out 7 day shop. I got mine there and it does a good job despite being cheaper!

As in all things in photography you work to a budget but get the best you can afford if you are going to use them a lot, save it if you are not sure on level of use.

Another vote for 7 Day Shop. I use their own branded ones (click here) and for 52mm it's only £4.19 including shipping.

If you want a posher one try the Hoya (click here) which is £18.99 and thats still a bargain.

Odd, you would think Nikon would mention filters on their own website or at the very least make them easier to find! I did not bother to Google, I went right to the source.

Oh OK then.

Don't buy filters from various manufacturers - they aren't good. Others are also bad. Some have a colour cast, especially the tobacco grads. EVERYONE has to have at least 100 circular polarisers as it's impossible to do anything without one. No point in buying anything, just make it yourself. Clingfilm works well as a soft focus filter. Spend loads. Buy cheap filters. Never use eBay unless they are selling what you want. UV filters degrade image quality so buy the expensive ones, cheap degradation is rubbish but the expensive types of quality degradation are trendy.
