I really like the processing on this, the effect really works well. Let's hope it's just steam the cooling towers are spewing out.

Thanks a lot Nick for the feedback. :-) Does the steam from these polute the atmosphere or is it safer than most industrial vapours?

There shouldn't be any pollution to the atmosphere from these cooling towers.* The towers are used to condensate and recover water from the steam that has been used on the heat exchanger of a power or chemical plant. The water used is in a separate system to the water/steam used to drive the turbines, so shouldn't become contaminated/irradiated.

Ah ha, just found a good diagram to show how the systems work - http://www.industry-animated.org/tea...towers_pdf.pdf and here is some more information about nuclear cooling towers http://www.hiroshimasyndrome.com/the...ing-tower.html

* I'm not sure if water vapour is classified a pollutant to the atmosphere, but as clouds are made of the same stuff, I doubt it.

Regards

Nick

Thanks, Nick they were very interesting! :-) I've actually stood inside a disused one but never new the dynamics of how they worked. I never even knew there were different kinds either. I think I am going to try and photograph all the ones in the UK and some in Europe as part of a large project next year.

Nice shot Karen

Cooling towers make clouds and thats it really unless the process goes wrong.
Thanks for the link Nick useful for my trainees at work.
