Going to work now, my volunteer ranger job.

When I come home the lists should be up, I suppose, unless November is going to be extended.

If there are indeed so many many photos shortlisted, how are the judges judging them all in under a forthnight?

Hasty judgements? Or have the shortlists been available to them for a longer period?

If so, why withold them from us? It would have created a period of excitement and many more visits to the site, which can't be bad!

Well this wait means that we are all still in with a chance right up to the last moment of publishing. The quality of photography this year must be making the judges decisions exceptionally difficult, they are sure to pick a winner.

There are only 30 shortlisted images per category, and with several judges for the competition - whittling down 30 to the top 3 shouldn't present too much of a problem.

The shortlists have not that long been finished, and with several thousand images to whittle down to just 30 per category, is probably harder than the final judging, however what really takes the time is uploading them all into a presentable fashion for people to see.

That said, you will be pleased to know that the shortlists will be live very soon - in fact probably by the time you read this, they will already be live.

Good luck!

Amy

Yes - it hasn't gone live yet, we are just finishing the shortlists pages now.

Congrats to all who made the lists.

No surprise I didn't -I just don't take the kind of images judges like ... never mind - at least it means I can now sell them

You could have sold them before - you own the copyright no matter what

Sorry to hear you didn't make the shortlist though!

Karen, I told you so: You did make it! Congratulations.

Only not with my favourite shot; I'm convinced they made a mistake there! But it's probably better for your niece, that she'll be left in peace for a bit longer.

But who am I to judge? My taste simply does come nowhere near that of the people who put together the short lists.

Congratulations to all who made it!
