thanks for all your helps guys. I think i'm going to go for the nikon based on the peace of mind of the 2 yr warranty with the manufacturer and not just the shop.

£330 should get me the camera, memory card and bag which will be a good place to start from and I can ask for xmas pennies towards the tripod and filters.

I'm a keen cyclist and there are always arguements between which gearing system is better - Shimano, SRAM or if you're a roadie Campagnolo. I assume there is a similar debate over Canon, Nikon, Pentax etc in the photography world?

I guess once you've bought one brand and some filters and lenses to fit that brand then if you upgrade the body you will more than likely be stuck with that brand unless you want to buy a whole load mmore lenses and filters.

There is only one camera to buy and that's a Nikon! All the others are just imitations...

i've just looked at the amazon page where i got my D3000 for £300 and it's now £389. Very glad i bought it when i did and didn't um and arh over it too long!!

Nice one at least they haven't slashed the price which is what usually happens to me after I but something

I expect it will drop back down in price after Xmas though.
