Good!

I think the fact that the words duotone and monochrome are used for the same thing, is confusing.

There are several ways to get monochrome; I think experimenting will be fun and educating. Everyone will simply have to find the most striking example.

By the way, my laptop came with Picasa preloaded (it's free anyway as far as I know) and that programme has a 'tint' setting in the 'effects,' which I have used successfully in the past to get monochrome pictures.

Thanks for clearing that up Jeff, I was just concerned that after looking at the link you originally provided that people with Elements would have felt they were unable to join in.

Think this is going to be a tough one this month

Hopefully everyone now has an idea of what this months topic is about, as said i think that finding a topic is going to be harder that executing it in the weeks to come.

Examples of what this is all about can be found in google.

Not necessarily Chris.

The following I copied from the Photographic Society of America website and illustrates, I think, exactly what Jeff is after.

Monochrome Photography is usually pictures in black and white but it also includes single toned pictures. A monochrome print often expresses ranges of tones and textures that a colour picture finds difficult. It is a most creative medium often able to express subtle emphasis of mood and feeling. In this digital age as monochrome printers it is a delight to have a great range of printing papers for so long lost to the darkroom worker. Monochrome photography is about expression more than simply representation.

Great theme Jeff. There's plenty of ways to get to the finished product and whatever software we have it will still be a learning curve. I think you should be strict with us and not allow B&W

Just tried it on one of my college portrait photo's and absolutely LOVE the effect, so much better than the B&W it is at the minute. I am going to ask if I can do it in duotone, rather than plain old B&W.
