Question How can I take indoor Christmas tree's please?

I tried taking a picture of a Christmas tree tree inside a pub, but it came out almost black with just a few spects of light. I have a Pentax X90 set on AP, what settings can I use to get the tree in all it's lights?

I have tried the flash, but it overexposes's.

Easiest way is to switch to Program mode (Auto everything) and make sure the camera is stable (tripod or rest it somewhere steady). Do not use flash. Take the picture.... the camera will work out the exposure. (To make sure the camera remains steady when you hit the shutter button, use a delayed timer - this will give you a couple of seconds to take your hand off the camera and make sure it doesn't move).

The greatest advantage in digital photography is that you can see results instantly, so if the above doesn't work out, try some exposure compensation (+ or -) until you get what you want.
