Question newbie needs advice for young photographer

hi everyone,
my son is 9 and has a cheapy kodak easy share camera. He is into photography, knows how to center photos and review them etc (i know thats only basic) but he has handled a professional camera at a wedding a couple of yrs ago and a dSLR (i think) of my aunts...
Just looking for advice on the next step to buy him without costing a fortune!!!
Also if theres any good courses or books for his age around Ipswich, but will travel if need be

Thanks

I started my daughter off with a Fuji bridge camera around 7 yrs old. I thought she was pretty good and had an eye for it so I bought her second hand Canon 300D off eBay.

She's just turned 13 and has been using my old Canon 20D for the last year or so.

You can get your son a pretty reasonable second hand DSLR for £100 - £200 off Ebay, maybe even cheaper if you go for one 5 or 6 years old.

I would suggest a fuji bridge camera. like the link below just £115. As the name suggests it bridges the gap from a compact to a slr camera. You get a lot of settings you would find on a slr with manual controls etc.. for him to grow into. However there are still plenty of automatic shooting modes too for him to use now.

I started with a Fuji bridge too. But if you are looking for a dslr I saw THIS recently. I know that the D3000 is old technology as it has been replaced by the D3100 but it seems a good starting place at a really good price to me. It also has the advantage of having a guarantee that you will not get with a second hand one.
