Do you mean the sigma 10-20mm or the 12-24mm? I have the 10-20mm its great but if i was buying one today i would probably get the tamron its probably better and cheaper.

In order, best to worst:

Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5
Tamron 12-24mm f/3.5-4.5
Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6

They're all pretty close though to be honest...

I used all a few wide angle lenses with Photoplus a while back, and the sigma 10-20mm 3.5 was Great, id recomed it, if you could afford the canon thatd be my choice,

And i really wasnt a fan of the tamron didnt feel like a quality lens, didnt feel as robust as the canon or sigma,

And that constant 3.5 on the sigma is a Re3ally nice feature that would probably tip the balance imo,

I'd go for the Sigma too..... but that constant f/3.5 may push the price above an equivalent (but slower) Canon.

If you can afford around the £500 mark then look at the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 AT-X PRO DX AF Lens. It gets great reviews and it's F2.8 lens.

For the £500 you could have the Sigma, which imo i felt was a much superior lens to the Tokina, It wasnt my first choice on a lens, mainly the feel of it, and the push/pull manual/AF focus switch
