Well there all pretty pointless ad's for me because i just buy everything from amazon because they have yet to be beaten on price for anything i've ever purchased camera wise. Park and warehouse express must spend a fortune on advertising, but with everyone online nowadays all you need to do is a 10 second google search to find the cheapest. Which is never Park or warehouse express.

Try The Digital Camera Shop at www.thedigitalcamerashop.co.uk. On certain things they are considerably cheaper than Amazon. I bought the Cokin P047 filter from DCS for £12.98 while Amazon's price was about £19

Don't make the mistake of thinking that everyone's as fluent navigating the Internet as you are

Matt you would find it very difficult to have not heard of google if you have ever been online! But i guess there are still some people not online and that demographic if buying photo mags will be buying amateur photographer!

Thanks Chris i'll have a look! I always still look for the cheapest place not just go straight to amazon.

What mags are everyone else reading if not DC?

I also like the round up of new books websites and exhibitions page. Just generally a lot more to read even when its a third of the size. Its £27 more but you get one every week!
Hi

As the head of testing for Future's photography portfolio (which includes Digital Camera, PhotPlus and soon NPhoto) I'd really like to hear more about the issues you have with the tests in Digital Camera. We put a lot of work into them and we have the most comprehensive testing regime of any UK magazine. If you aren't getting what you need from them, please let me know.

All the best

With all due respect Angela, we raised some of them to you before. You gave the D7000 a 3 star rating because it "doesn't have an articulated screen" and "doesn't do exposure bracketing". Not having an articulated screen doesn't seem to be a big issue for a lot of camera users, and it actually does have exposure bracketing.

I also raised the point above that using a 5 star rating gives accuracy to within 20% - so its very hard to gauge something that is 60% good versus something that is 79% good - they both get 4 stars.

This is a very good point. A score out of 5 is not nearly a fine enough grain to make a decision on something that costs so much.

Well all depends on what you think is important on a camera. For me and most people is its ability to capture a image not video. So important things like colour depth, Dynamic Range and High iso performance, are ways you would measure such things. Which by the way the d7000 beats the 60d on all accounts. But you guys seem to think its whether its got a articulated screen or not.

Another good point. There needs to be a standard set of items that are tested and evaluated. I would agree that things like an articulating screen can be mentioned as a "It also has this" but should not be given any weight as to the quality of the camera.

The tests, in my opinion should be completely scientific and cover the same set of items that can be evaluated without prejudice. That way no one's integrity can be called into question.

I have already responded to the points raised about the D7000 and it was a bit more involved than you make it sound.

Anyhoo. I get your point about the 5-star rating. It is intended to give a quick indication to those who don't want to get bogged down in some of the discussion in the full review. I have used a % rating system in the past and it can be more flexible. However, most readers demand some form of breakdown so that they can tell what the camera is good and bad at.

There are also some elements that are more important than others. Image quality or detail resolution for example, is often considered more important than some aspects of the featureset, or white balance performance (for example). This means some form of weighting is required. Before you know it you've wound up with a % scoring system that actually only generates scaore within a fairly restricted band.

As we use a 5-star system I think it is important to use it's range. There are no really bad cameras from the main manufacturers these days, which means that a score of 1 should imply a reasonable, if not spectaular standard. That said, none of the manufacturers are too pleased to get a score below 3.
