I would like to know what you wanted this shot to say , I assume you are trying to evoke an emotion or you want to tell a bigger story than just an empty stage .
I think there's just not enough of a personal anchor to get me hooked and make me think about the story behind the photo .
May be if I could see even a part of the expression on the man face I could get involved in what is going on and I could imagine what the story is .

It's a great idea for a photo but it doesn’t quite work for me .

Might have worked more in B&W. Rule of thirds has been applied which is a great start. Maybe if you loose the very top layer of theatre lights with a letterbox crop?
