Hi Chris I don't think anyone would argue with you about people wandering about taking shots at will but I think that it's the happy couples day and it should be down to them how things are run and hopefully it will be a joyful ceremony rather than a solemn one .
I have the utmost respect for pro wedding photographers , I think they have a very hard and stressful job to do and only one chance to get it right but there is room for everyone to enjoy and participate in the day after all the church / room is full of family and close friends .

Tony

Point me in the direction of the bin and I'll be more than happy to do the rest .

By the way I don't think your post was strong enough .

Why can't the people that run this site do anything ?

Mark

Hopefully the POWERS THAT BE will notice it and it will be sorted out. I don't think that it will take too long for this to be done as there is loads of activity on this site, compared to the last one I was a member of this one is a breath of fresh air........

Hi Mark,

At the last wedding I attended the bride's father handed me his camera and asked me to take some photos, before, during and after the ceremony. I had a word with the pro, and made sure that I stayed out of his way.

If there is respect from and for all parties there shouldn't be a problem. Too often, though, people show little or no respect for their surroundings or for other people, so one can understand why some officials deem a total ban necessary.

I'm so glad common-sense prevailed in your case Les , it's a sad fact of life I suppose that the majority of respectful people have to suffer for the actions of the few .

As someone with quite a bit of experience of photographing weddings professionally I would like to make the point that every venue and minister has their own rules. One thing that does seem fairly consistent is that most prefer just to have a single photographer allowed to take photos DURING the ceremony. This is in order to preserve the dignity of the ceremony and of course it makes it easier for the ‘official’ photographer.

That said what the ‘official’ photographer is allowed to do during the ceremony also varies widely. Ironically I have has the most severe restrictions but upon me by register offices, while I have been allowed free reign in churches.

When booking weddings with clients I always make it clear that I have no objections to guests taking their own photographs providing that they respect that I have a professional job to do and do not get in the way or compete with me for the attention of the subjects. After many, many weddings, I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I have had issues with guests presenting problems.
