West Wittering

Hi All

A shot I took at West Wittering a couple of weeks ago, dull gray sky, so converted to BW, still think I can do a little more with this shot in photoshop.

Any suggestions.

I really like this shot, well done. Any more adjustments will distract from its minimalist style although I would be tempted to take out the birds (using photoshop as apposed to a gun of course). There's possibly something amiss with the sky - perhaps a little work with the dodge tool might balance it out a bit?
Overall, good stuff.

Hi Steve, I think it may be a lack of contrast, though understandably it was a very low contrast day. You could either bring a bit of the colour back, as saturation helps increase contrast, or try and manually add contrast to the sea and sky areas.

Also, try a little bit of vignetting to add a bit of depth perhaps? Nice composition though

Still think I can get this better.

Added a liitle vignetting, sharpened up the contrast and removed the gulls.

imo i like the second 1 best on the 1st it looks like youve added the dark sky to follow the posts so it doesnt look realbut youve adjusted it on the second so it looks more natural

Edit # 3, played allot more with layer and colour/contrast before converting.

I preferred the vignetting present in the second one personally.

Did you take any shots in landscape? Only there's very little of interest in the bottom part of the sand (other than the reflection) and the top part of the sky. I wonder if this were a landscape the the posts positioned right, it might better display the contrast of the posts on the vista?

Much prefer the first - that sky just so suggests a squally shower and the birds give the shot added interest and scale. Do have problems with the OOF FG and the 50:50 nature - might be tempted to crop out just under where the darker sand starts

Thanks for all the input, learnt a few things along the way and that's what it's all about.

The things I've picked are :
• Take both landscape and portrait shots.
• Don't over process and try and keep it simple
• Bracket your exposures
• Everyone see's and likes different things.
