Copyright questions

Hi All,

I have a few questions regarding copyrights. Where would I go to to get a copyright? What are the costs involved? I have some works I would like to send to poster makers and have been advised to geta copyright, how would I go about this?

Many thanks

You don't 'get a copyright' from anywhere. You automatically own the copyright as the artist/author of the work you produce.

If you like you can add a copyright symbol to the photos you send off just to enforce the fact that you are letting the poster people know the picture is copyrighted, though they should know this already.

Copyright of the photo remains with you unless you agree to pass it on to a third party, depending on the item created by you the copyright remains with you or your estate until usually 50 to100 years after your death.

So you don't need to do anything, you are the copyright owner the moment you create the item (provided you're not doing it under a contract for a third party, working for the MOD and some other cases).

Hi,
Just to add to Cathus' remarks, if you've got a Canon or a Nikon (not sure about other brands), you can embed Copyright data into the Exif. The latest issue of Digital Camera (116) has a short tutorial on it, but it's pretty simple anyway.

I will look into editing the embedded data to copyright, thanks for that tip!
