Thanks Dan, i think lightroom has just gone out of the window for me. I found it on ebay for £50 but when i looked it was for the license only, no cd or box so that's out for me, too pricey.

When downloading any program from the web use a blank DVD and write it to that, then use that to install it on your PC. Or you could use a new folder on your PC to download it too, then copy that folder to your DVD before or after you install it on your PC. I've done that with Photoshop when I've brought it from Adobe's website.

As to Raw files in general, they all contain a basic Jpeg imbedded within the Raw file else, you couldn't see it on your camera's screen when you take the picture. There are programs which allow you to extract this from the Raw files, like this: http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/

I do have the ACR5 add on but find it slow and frustrating.
I don't want anything fancy, just quick to view and able to delete what is rubbish quickly to save time.

Yes, I see what you mean if you're editing, but if you have the ACR5.6 you will be able to see the images in Organizer.... no need to actually open ACR..... they become viewable in Organizer as long as you have 5.6 installed.

Still, if your laptop is good enough for Lightroom then there's no problem... but I can understand that you'd like it on a disc - even though you'll still need a good guide book to accompany it. It may be worth seeing if you know anybody who can get LR at the 'educational' or 'student' rate - a big saving.

Still, if it's just for wading through images you download from your camera then I'd go for the method via Organizer I describe above or maybe Faststone, as recommended by Cathus.
