Football Club Team Photos

Hi,

I have been asked to take a series of team photographs of the various teams at my local football club. As these will go on sale to the football club members, I want them to look as good and professional as possible so would greatly appreciate any advice in order to achieve this. The gear I have is: Canon 5D MkII, Canon 24-105mm, Canon 17-40mm, Canon 70-200mm. I would like to know which lens would be the best to use out of the above three, where to focus, and recommended aperture, plus any other info you think important for achieving the best possible results.

Well what a bloody waste of time posting on here has been. I thought it was a genuine forum, not a teenage chat room. Back to your play stations, boys, I'll find someone genuine to ask advice from.

Hey, just watch your tone buddy.

You list a bunch of semi pro gear and ask everything but for one of us to go take the shots for you. Doesn't add up to me.

If you bother to read this forum, you will notice that everyone on here is always happy to help anyone in genuine need of it.

Explain to me this. How did you end up with all that gear and yet don't know which lens to use for this task you have? I take it that when you bought the camera and the lenses you had some clue as to why you decided on them? What have you been using them for up to date? Door stops?

On the other hand you could have won, been given, inherited or acquired this gear and don't have the first clue on what to do. If that's the case then explaining that in your first post might have been an idea.

My guess is that you are in your early teens and have borrowed your dad's camera gear, probably without his permission.

Your assumptions are all eroneous. I asked a genuine question in the hope of a helpful answer. I didn't realise that the so-called helpful members on here required a load of justifiable reasons for questions to be posted. I am unsure whether to use a wide-angle lens because of possible distortions at the edges of the frame of the shot, having only used it for landscapes up until now. I was unsure about the aperture because I want a fast enough shutter speed so I won't get any camera shake, but also to ensure everyone in the group is sharply in focus - f8? f16? Which would be better, or is there a better option?
You also need to watch your tone - the last line in your answer I find incredibly insulting and offensive, as is also the weak crack about using my equipment for a door-stop.

It you find my comments offensive you want to have a hard look at yourself Tom and how you present yourself to a forum (and possibly grow up a little). Troll's are never welcome.

Perhaps someone else on here may feel the need to help you after this interaction, I don't.

Your arrogance is actually unbelievable. My initial post was a genuine plea for help which met with quite unreasonable responses; if you are a representative of a typical member on here, then I am disappointed to say the least at the calibre of people who post questions and/or answers. I'd like to think, however, that most others on here are a little more helpful and a little less objectionable. You have proved beyond all doubt that there are exceptions to every rule - I always thought photographers were a helpful bunch of people who were happy to give advice to others who asked for help. And as for you declining to help me in any way, well if that is how you feel, even after I justified why I asked for help, all I can say is that I hope other posters on here aren't as unfortunate as I have been, and actually get a response from someone who genuinely cares and wants to help.
