What was the website called ....

.... that did this sort of thing?

You basically take an old photo to where it was taken and photo it. I saw a link on here (I think) where there are loads of them.

This is my Dad and our old dog, Bandit. Originally taken about 1984.

It's really hard to line up (as you can see).

Hi Jimmy,

I've browsed a lot of these types of photo examples from the link you referred to, posted by our fellow member donoreo. I understand how personal this image is for you; to be at the exact location where a loved one themselves were so many years before.
I've taken the liberty of aligning the image in photoshop. Please let me know if you would rather I remove this image.

The problems are one of perspective and controlled distortion to align the elements of the image up. From the original I immediately made a dupliate layer. I then cropped this layer to the photograph in the image you were holding. I distorted this layer with the transform tool to align the railings up on the right hand side. The left hand railings need a bit more work but that shouldn't be difficult. Having distorted this layer, the biggest problem was trying to align the ocean horizon with the horizon in the background layer. I did this using a combination of a mask, the erase tool and the cloning tool. I merged these layers into one layer, but still had to duplicate this layer to make some further adjustments.

Another fellow member who goes by the name of amk1977 is lobbying the admin staff to open up the forum in creating a subsection in the Photoshop Technques forum for members to demo image editing techniques from real life situations, similar to your own.

Once again, if you want me to remove this image please let me know.

In retrospect, my posting is irrelevant if lining up the image should be done in situ with no post editing allowed. What a bummer!
