The Hunter

This is my first attempt at a black and white conversion so I would really appreciate your views on how I could improve it and secondly I've posted the colour version to ask if you think the black and white conversion improves the shot or not .

Mark

Thanks for your time .

Regarding the photo composition - I think the cat face is too small for the photo to give impact. Have a look at changing the crop.

Regarding the b&w conversion - I think it's almost there. My personal taste would be to increase the blacks and whites a little.

As always, this is just my opinion and I do think the idea for the shot is really great.

Hi Jimmy and thanks for your comments

Other peoples opinions is the hole purpose for me posting my images and I all ways find constructive criticism like yours useful in helping me to improve and grow .

I'm still fighting with myself over how much to crop mainly because I prefer a much larger crop to show more space around the subject , I cropped this one down to this after hours of should I or shouldn't I and my favourite one is still a wide almost letter box crop that is in my gallery . I guess I'v got some kind of hang up on this but I will go off and try out some tighter crops and also play with the contrast .

Thanks again for your time

Mark

I prefer the coloured version. I think the cat's eyes are a beautiful colour and in bw you lose that. For me, there is too much grass so I would crop right into the photo in a landscape orientation.

I like the colour version also. I also like the crop but maybe take it in a fraction. I would bump up the contrast a bit making the fur blacker a spot of sharpening. Maybe add a vignette to lead the eye in. It's all person taste however, its a lovely shot as it is. Below is a quick edit to show what i would do hope you don't mind i will delete once you have seen it.

Thanks deena I think it was the eyes that I saw first they are stunning aren't they , I agree that a close crop would make the most of the cat and those eyes but I like the space around the cat to give it the feeling of a wild hunting scene .
May be I should just make two pics out of the one shot ?.

Thanks thefonz78 ( Robert ) I went back and had a play with contrast but I was a bit concerned that I would start to loss to much detail in the fur so I ran over the grass and a bit of the cat with the burn tool and it certainly did make an improvement also the vignette effect really works well on this shot .

Thanks a lot for all your comments and suggestions .
