Is retro styling such as the fuji x100 popular?

I have fallen in love with the Fuji x100 it is beautiful. I love the retro look but not the price tag. If a bought a bridge camera or m4/3 i would defiantly want it to have a retro rangefinder look with a viewfinder. Olympus pen prototype was gorgeous but they chickened out when going to production and give it mainstream looks. They promote it as retro but i see nothing retro in the styling. Are they all missing a trick here, doesn't everybody think the x100 is lovely to look at? Do you think the x100 will start a craze? I read Fuji are bringing out another to retro styles compacts out this year with smaller price tags i look forward to seeing them. Nikon and Canon are turning up late to the party so better have something new to give when the release there m3/4 and having the retro rangefinder look with a smaller price tag could be just the ticket. If nikon brought out a s3 look digital i would snap one up on the first day of release.

I thought i would make a poll do see if people would prefer a retro look or modern look to a m3/4?

I have never given it any thought, so I do not have an answer. I am not sure how many have what. That would be a good poll question: what type of camera: SLR, M4/3, Other Compact Camera System, Superoom compact, compact P&S,etc . I am sure it can be broken down a bit more. Bridge and hybrid cameras.

Havent had a look at the retro Fuji. But to be honest, I am more inclined toward the modern look rather than retro.

I will have a look at it all the same just to see for myself. As an avid Fuji fan and user, I can vouch for the build quality of thier cameras and the ergonomics. I also accept that although some of their bridge cameras can rival some entry level DSLRs, Fujis own DSLR range is a bit sparse and pricey.

I have always used Fuji superzoom bridge cameras. I started out with the s9600 and now use the s200exr.

The next generation is out, Finepix HS20EXR, which has been tipped to push the Bridge boundaries even further.

I like the look of the Fuji X100 and am a fan of the retro styling. I've always liked the rangefinder cameras and old film cameras in general. Just something about the mechanics of it all that i find so appealing. Combining it with modern technology was definitely the right move by Fuji. Its had rave reviews for its image quality and ease of use. If I won the lotto, I think I'd get one to play with.

I love it to amk1977 fuji are bringing out another 2 retro styled cameras this year both with with smaller price tags so you might not have to win the lotto. I'm looking forward to seeing them. Do what i'm doing and buy it for your partner as they could do with a compact!

Retro Look! I grew up with OM10's, Zenith Olympic special (still got) Pentax, first camera was a polaroid where the film developed itself, that was tricky. Looking at them at the time they were functional not retro, looking back now, retro. It could be that the kind of progress that produced digital cameras now has a generation that didnt get to use the old film style cameras and can understand the appeal of the look. A similar thing happened with radios after they became digital, some designer must have looked up and said "hey, how about a digital radio that looks like a wireless".
The reviews look good for this camera but I guess its a Marmite thing (and a healthy bank balance).
A few ramblings of mine.

The Fuji X100 is a fine camera..... but, compared with other cameras, 50% of the cost would be styling. "Bang for Buck" not too good. Now if somebody wanted to give me a birthday present of it, that would be a different matter.

it's a lot of money for what is essentially a "novelty" camera
if they could get one of the 1960's / 70's famous photographers to endorse it or even add his signiture to it i'm sure the could raise the price even more

i think it's one of those items you would buy because you like it not because it's a camera with outstanding performance there's better to be had for the same or less money

personaly i wouldn't buy it even if i could afford to
