London by Boat

Not my usual type of photography, snapshots from a boat after a day out. Let me know what you think.

Cheers.

Hi Damo,

Personally, I think it really needs cropping, as currently the focal point of the image isn't really apparent. The bridge is an interesting lead into the photo, in the sense that it comes in from above, where normally you'd expect a lead in to be at the bottom.

The black and white conversion is also very flat. You've also got some over exposure in the sky, which you might be able to address if you shot this in raw format, as it will allow you to recover quite a few EV depending on the model of camera.

I had a quick play with your image in photoshop. Cropped it down, placing the dome of St Paul's (think I'm right in labeling it as such lol) on the left had third line of the photo and the bridge leading you across to it. I then dodged and burnt the image to improve the contrast and bring out more detail, before apply an unsharp mask and finally a high pass filter.

Cheers, I like your take on the photo. I am always wary of people using different crops as I think that this is really down to a personal take on the image rather than a true critique but I think that your processing has really transformed this image. This picture was really a snapshot after a few pints of Amstel but after messing around with it in photoshop I quite liked it. I appreciated the flatness before comparison with your take on it. Any chance you can give me a link to a higher def version of your image? I am a newcomer to image processing but this illustrates the value of it.

You should be able to right mouse click the image and open it in a new tab to see the higher resolution version. If not just use the url below http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...gn-i-editi.jpg
