Buying CS5 to use with Canon 550D

I am thinking of investing in Photoshop CS5. However, my Canon 550D is not compatable with Adobe Camera Raw (very frustrating). Will I be wasting my money and time with this package? Are there any other photo editing packages that would be compatable with my camera? Has anybody else had this frustrating complication. All the new Canon DSLR's seem to work with ACR.

ACR supports the 550D . You need at least version 6.1 of ACR and the current version is 6.4.1.

I will use a second post for this. The question is do you NEED CS? For most people Elements will do everything they need. Is there something in CS that you need?

Just trying to help and possibly save you money.

I totally agree with Donoreo,

I purchased PhotoShop CS5 as part of an Adobe suite bundle. It was incredibly expensive and PhotoShop is total overkill for editing my Canon 500d images, but I needed a couple of the other applications in the suite for my work.

I'd suggest you spend the £90 odd on PhotoShop Elements 9, if you feel it's too limited/restricted then download the free 30 day trial of Photoshop CS5.5 before purchasing to make sure it does what you want it to do.

ACR works with my Canon 500d, and I see that the 550d was supported from version 5.7 (April 2010) see http://www.adobe.com/support/downloa...jsp?ftpID=4681.

Regards

Nick

I agree with Nick and donoreo although you can also download a trial version of Elements 9 as well as CS5 so you can take them both for a spin before you part with any cash.

The biggest weakness with Elements for a long time was the lack of layer masks although you could work around it, it now supports this.

I agree 100% with previous posts. I was told I needed Photoshop and rushed out and bought CS only to later discover Elements would do everything I want and more.
Download the Elements trial, I'm sure you'll find it'll do all you want - It's easier to use as well!
