Beynac castle, Dordogne

Hi Guys

Took this last year, (Beynac castle, Dordogne) I've tried several things to try and crisp this image up or make it a little more striking, any idea's.

Would a crop on the left hand side help ?

All suggestions welcome.

I think there might be too much in the photo? To me this is a case of where a zoom, rather than a wide angle, lens would be used.

Steve, I just think it needs a bit of a contrast boost and some gentle cloning of slight distractions. I had a quick go, see what you think. I will delete it from my gallery within a week or sooner if you wish.


Have you tried a vertical crop to see if that works better? Somtimes it can help.

I agree with Donoreo that there might be a little too much in the photo.

There's about 5 or 6 photo's in that shot mate and therefore lacks focus (not as in sharp, that's fine ....meh, you knew that anyway).

Nice location but I agree, there's too much to focus on in the one shot.

Jimmy, just out of interest, what would be the 5 or so shots? I'm struggling to picture them. I would imagine the river and bridge to be one of them. Then there's a close up of the main building. Just one of my frustrations of 'seeing' the shot at the moment.

Thanks for the feedback, I went back through my images taken at the time and found a different shot of the same area, but I'm looking at this more closely now, don't think I can make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

The following shot I think encompasses some of the review comments.



First shot was with Canon 15-85mm @ 85mm, 1/200, F9.0 but was cropped wide.
This shot was taken with Sigma 7-300mm @ 190mm F6.3, 1/320

Both were shot ~11 am, I think this did not help the clarity and contrast, it was a warm humid day, should have gone back later in the day with the sun on the limestone rocks would have brought out the deep oranges and ochre colours.

I still had some more focal length left so yes I could have looked at zooming in a little closer on the second shot.

Thanks again for the input, I'll try and put it to use over the next couple of weeks.

That I like better, the river acts as a leading line, the bridge is sort of foreground interest (we do know it is really far away from you though, but it looks nice and falls in a "third") and the main keep of the castle is better situated.
