Makinon 80-200mm Zoom

Hi all,

I'm new to the DSLR world and currently use my work camera. I'm just about to get my own, and was wondering if I'll be able to use my old Makinon zoom on a DSLR?

Cheers

That depends on what camera it was made to fit, and what camera you want to use it on.

Chris,

Thanks for the reply - looking to buy a Canon 600d, and the lens was used on my zenit film camera.

THIS may be what you are looking for. Found it on google with a search 'adapter for zenit to canon'. Give it a try and see what else you can come up with.

There are a variety of old lens/mounts that you can use with the Canon EOS camera bodies via adapters. If you're on a limited budget, then these can offer a relatively cheap alternative.

I should imagine your 600D will come with something like an 18-55mm kit lens. You could also add to this very cheaply with the 50mm f/1.8 MKII which is around the £80 mark. Optically a superb lens, with a nice shallow depth of field and very sharp. It does feel very cheap in the hand though.

If you were to look to add more old manual focus lenses to your kit, then I'd recommend you look for Nikon Ai/Ai-s lenses, as they too can be used on Canon EOS via an adapter and are of fantastic quality.

M39, M42, Tamron AD2, Olympus OM, Pentax PK and a few others can be used too. Some like the old Canon FD mount can be used but, the adapters have an additional glass element in them. Since they are pretty cheap devices coming out of China, I shouldn't imagine the quality of that optic is all that great. I'd therefore suggest you stick to the mounts listed above that require no additional optics, or Canon EF lenses.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

Now that I know what I'm looking for, if anyone else needs this type of adapter check out Amazon. I found the M42 to Eos adaptor for £5.99.

Cheers
