Smile Moving

As of today, I have moved over to the camera testing team as news reporter.

This means that my main role will be to help maintain the camera section of TechRadar and PhotoRadar, along with news and kit reviews for the print magazines (Digital Camera, PhotoPlus, Practical Photoshop).

Although I'll be sticking around on the site, it does also mean that it will no longer be part of my role to answer queries relating to the PhotoRadar forum, website or anything related to its development etc. As I'll still be around I'll try my best to pop in from time to time and see if there's anything I can answer quickly, but mainly I'll stick to posting news about kit/tech (as was the request in another thread).

From now on, if you have any questions that need answering, the best bet is to contact Marcus directly by email (marcus.hawkins@futurenet.com). With me moving off the PhotoRadar team you can imagine he'll be very busy in the next few weeks so he may not have time to check in on the forum on a day to day basis - so urgent queries should be sent directly. Feel free to also email me and I'll do my best to answer if I can.

It will also not be part of my role to answer questions about Photographer of the Year or the print magazines (except for kit related stuff). The best way to contact them is to continue to write in the given sections in the forum, where someone appropriate from the team should be able to see them. If you require an urgent answer, try emailing digitalcamera@futurenet.com, photoplus@futurenet.com, or photoradar@futurenet.com.

Any questions you have, please do let me know.

Thanks,

Amy

I hope that's good news for you Amy (more salary?), but I guess it means there will be even less involvement from the PR team in the forum which is a pity?

The PR team is Marcus only, and I have asked him to get more involved with the forum. As you can imagine though, with a smaller team he will have an increase in tasks, so please bear with him - again, like I say, email him if you have a problem.

I am sad to see you go. Even with your writing duties for PR, you were always in the forums.

Anyone else think have a camera section on TechRadar is redundant and the camera section should just come to PR?

You will still see me around, don't worry

And the camera channel on TechRadar is powered by us at PhotoRadar, with its own team to keep it updated. All the news and reviews will be linked to from PhotoRadar, so you won't miss any of the stories.

TechRadar has a wider audience, which includes those interested in cameras, hence the reason for a dedicated channel on the site. It also means that we are not duplicating work across two sites (i.e. having two people within the same company write essentially the same story for two different sites) therefore freeing up our time to do other things, such as testing.

Hope that makes sense!

That makes more sense. I had never looked at it and right away I could see the inefficiencies of maintaining two different items covering the same topics. However, often that sort of sillyness happens

Thankyou Karen, I'm only moving across the office so will still be around - and like I say will do my best to still answer queries, just don't be surprised if the answer doesn't come as quickly or I just don't know the answer straightaway

And you're welcome - hoping to still do some writing like that for PhotoRadar on the side, if not, I'm sure Marcus will keep everyone updated with the good stuff in the news section of the site.
