Compatible lenses

Evening.
A friend of mine has some lenses from a fairly decent film camera. There is a Vivitar a Sigma and a few others.
My question is, is it possible to uses these lenses on my Pentax Kx with some sort of mounting ring????
I am Quite new to this photography thing so any way of gaining some new kit without the expense would be ideal.

Yours in hope,
Colin.

What type of film camera were the lenses for? I think Pentax digital cameras use the same mount as their flim ones.

If they are, Olympus used the same mount for 30 years, from 1972 to 2002.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympus_OM

There is a chart of lenses down that page made by Olympus as well.

These guys modify the mount: http://www.leitax.com/OlympusOM-lens...x-cameras.html

I found a couple of references to OM to K mount adapters as well.

Ouch! 62 Euros for an adapter, per lens? Unless they are top quality old glass, I wouldn't bother. 62 Euros is probably more than what the lenses are worth to be honest. You'd be better off looking on eBay for some old PK mount lenses or maybe some M42 lenses which you can use with an M42 to PK adapter.

You could pick up an old Takumar/Super Takumar 50mm f/1.8 for about £20 for a nice copy. I used to have a couple myself. Very nice little lenses and fun to use. Manual focus of course but to be honest, I think you learn photography quicker/better having to physically set your aperture on the lens and manually focus it.

If you don't have a 50mm lens yet, then keep an eye out for the above. You'll love using them and can get really creative with the shallow depth of field. Great for general photography, close portraiture and still life. I also had a Chinon 55mm f/1.4 which was a lovely bit of heavy old glass. For the money, you really can't go wrong.
