Mirror Lenses

For my 18th birthday today i was given a Samyang 500mm Mirror Lens f8

Any ideas what i can expect with it attached to my new D90? obviously i wont have AF

You could expect a long and fairly slow manual focus lens which should give perfectly acceptable results in good light.

You will get that weird 'donut' bokeh that mirror (or catadioptric) lenses give which can be quite good fun. This sort of lens is capable of some good results but you have to learn to work within it's limitations, thats all. And thats most of the fun!

You will certainly need a LOT of daylight, a tripod, cable release,but do not expect high resolution.
