Unhappy "missing" dvd drive

I've posted this on the Adobe website, but I doubt very much I will ever be able to navigate to any answers. In Elements 7, I'm trying to create a DVD for the first time. I get the message "no CD/DVD drive", although the drive is there and works fine with every other application.

Haven't got Elements as I use CS3. Could do with more infomation as to what you are doing? Have you tried the export option? As a possible solution create a folder on your hard disk and write the files there, then use your CD/DVD program to copy that to the CD/DVD.

Unhappy "missng" drive

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately the "Export" command won't let you move to removeable optical media. It directs you to use the Copy/Move to Removable Disk command, which, predicatably enough, gives me the same "No CD/DVD drive" message. Elements 7 clearly knows the drive is there, and I have copied files in from it in the past.

This sounds as if you copies some files to a CD/DVD in the past and removed the disk without telling Elements. So, elements has got it's knickers in a twist and will need to be reset. Find a disk that you have used in the past to backup your pictures and put that in your drive. Scan it with Elements to see if it can read it OK, then remove it and try the new disk again, I assume it has been preformatted. If that doesn't work then use your CD/DVD writer software to format the disk and try again.

Angry "missing" drive

Thanks again for your interest. As far as I recall, the only time that I've done anything that involves Elements and the drive is to import files on a single occasion. It seems to be able to recognise the drive for import but not to write to it. I think I'm probably in over my head here - Elements has probably taken several years off my life in suppressed rage, not just at this but at all the other ways it leads you into dead-ends - and I need to give up and get a life.

Do you need to use elements to burn data to a disk? Can't you just use the "normal" burning software and avoid Elements all together?

I'm with you Chris

thats what I do

works every time

Strangely I used Lightroom to make backup copies on DVD for the first time this week and they don't seem readable in any other computer so i wont do that again
