I think in colour, the castle and the hills it stands on are too dark, as you've lost all detail in them. However, this shot may work better if you convert it to black and white.

I disagree with my esteemed colleague - the detail has been kept to the foreground with the shape of the hills and silhouette of the castle framing it wonderfully.

My only criticism would be that you evidently don't need any criticism, and your shots would be better off posted in the Landscape forum instead

I think this a matter of personal taste, John. I do like the detail in the foreground, but I ask what should be the main focal point of the image? I find that my eyes keep returning to the rocks, because they're the only area that's being highlighted and the castle is not holding my attention. As Matt has said, it forms just part of the backdrop that frames the rocks. My own thought is that the rocks should just lead your eye towards the castle and let it hold your interest, but being in silhouette it doesn't for me, personally.

However, I must complement you on your composition as it's superb!

Just a small change to lift the castle and hill, any better?

Yes it's better, but the changes you've made are very subtle.

Hi Ian, Yes the changes are very subtle as any more and it removed from the mystery and drama of the image.I think all it needed was lifting just a tad so that your eye is drawn towards the castle a little more.

No you certainly don't want to overdo it, as this would ruin the image, as you quite rightly say. Just a little bit of dodging following the shoreline and then snake it back across the green area below the castle, so it forms a pathway for your eyes to follow. Super image!
