Will save for the 70-300mm VR or maybe a 50mm prime
I'm surprised at that, as Ken usually gives good advice on Nikon lenses, and all the ones I have match what he says.

The Nikon 70-300mm VR is a super lens and very sharp. Looking for a 50mm prime then the Nikon 50mm F1.8 D AF Lens is a super buy at less than £110.

You'd be better thinking "what photographic problems do I want to solve that my current lenses can't solve" and "what lenses can solve those problems". We could advise you to get a 10-20 wideangle, but that won't help with shooting wildlife or insects. A lens is a tool. There's not a lot of point buying a chisel when what you need is a hammer.

It might be some time (and then, it might not) before you can say where your current lenses are failing you.

My 55-200mm is my main lens at the moment - maybe a macro lens would help but the 55-200mm does macro at a push
