Just a couple of other points to chuck in, if it has 4GB of RAM or more make sure it is bundled with a minimum of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit so it can use all that RAM, avoid any laptop that comes with Windows 7 Starter addition as that is way to restrictive.

Are you planning on using it on battery, if so battery life can be an issue with I3/I5/I7 CPU's especially with the cheaper laptops, some of them only last about 45 mins playing video.

If you are doing photo editting then laptop screens can be a bit iffy.

I've pretty much decided between an Acer and a Packard Bell. I don't know if I'm better off getting 6GB ram and i3 processor, or 4GB ram and i5 processor. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which is better/quicker. Main use will be for photos. And Internet and music, but it needs to be good for editing Photos.
Any suggestions appreciated. Many thanks for your help so far.

I've got a Dell Inspiron 17R with a i5-460m and 4GB RAM - it runs CS5.5 (trial) very very easily with other programs running in the background - i'm not sure if the extra 2 gb of ram will make a massive difference

Not sure which model you are going for so suggest you checkout the reviews here for your model. http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/laptops

The Packard Bell laptops are made for Dixons/PC World/Curry's so may not be as good/ value for money as they appear at first glance. I have a Acer PC which works fine but the documentation included as a booklet/PDF file is useless. Not sure on the Acer Laptops as I haven't used one. Did notice that some of the laptops couldn't be upgraded with extra memory as they haven't got any spare memory slots. When choosing one make sure the graphic's chip doesn't use shared memory on your main board, as this can slowdown what applications you can use and their speed.

You don't say what your budget is but, with my limited knowledge, I would say that you would want one of the newer processors, say i3, i5 or i7, as much RAM as you can afford but a minimum of 4Gb and as big a hard disc as you can afford as you will soon fill up a smill hard drive. as you can afford

I'd go with Steve on this, as much ram with Win7 64. So for me it would be the i3 with 6 GB ram.

Thanks for all your help everyone. It was much appreciated. After all that I've bought a Samsung RV511. It was a good spec at a good price. Thanks again.

IPad 2 questions? Please answer!?

Hi' so I'm going to be getting the iPad 2 around the end of July and I have a couple questions.

-top 5 favorite games?
-best way to conserve better life?
-rate 1-10, 1 being horrible 10 being flipping amazing
-do you like it? Why or why not?
-hard case on the back and smart cover on the front or leather case that covers all the iPad?

Thanks!

Coming into this too bit late now with regards to the processor / RAM debate, but I'd go with bigger processor than more RAM.... why? Cos RAM is cheap and easy to add later!

As for the iPad question - why an iPad (over another make), and why do you want a tablet?

With this in mind is there anything in particular I need to look out for? What sort of processor, RAM, memory etc etc?

Thanks again,

Chris.
If you don't play performance demanding games any laptop/notebook with more than 1-2gb of ram memory and a processor of 3GHz and above should do the job just fine. If possible try and get a 3 GHz duel core processor as these are super fast and well worth the extra money.
