B&W Portrait

A portrait shot of my wife when we were on a date at a Japanese restaurant.

Nice lighting and a good pose, but perhaps again you needed to use a wider aperture to get a shorter depth of field. That or clear some of the additional clutter from the foreground.

I really don't know anything but I think I would try is a tighter crop to cut out all the extra stuff taking away from the subject.

Terminology sometimes gets in the way too. : )

If you really intended this to be a 'portrait' then you need to think more about the shot you are taking.

This comes over more as a 'snap shot' of a holiday trip that you've converted to black and white. If that is what you intended then you succeeded.

If you really meant it to be Portrait photography then you need to take control of the scene.

Some observations: Her eyes are way to far to her right- too much white of the eyes showing. Her hands are awkward and need to be 'posed' by you. Her facial expression is distracting. The clutter on the table needs clearing out of the way. Moving her to her left would have eliminated the extraneous pull cord and such like from the pic.

Hope this helps. : )
