Canon 50d problems Help!!

Hi all

Ive got a canon 50d and I cannot get the autofocus confirmation beep to work ive tried everything but no joy the af points still light up but no beep.Also when using live view mode the camera wont focus using the shutter button,Does anyone know if its me just not used to this camera or is there a problem.Any help would be great as im rather frustrated....

have you checked that the beep is actually turned on? I know by default with a new Canon it is usually turned on & it's the first thing I turn off on a new camera, nothing more annoying than standing next to people with all those focus beeps going off all the time, especially in quiet surroundings.

It is an option in your menu.

Yes ive checked that it is turned on,ive tried turning off,turning on,checked that it isnt in ai servo mode,tried resetting the camera still no beep.Ive just bought this 50d so it new to me and so many settings and custom functions,the person I bought it from had it working now it isnt.

Most of us turn that irritating little blip off when we set our cameras up. As long as the green light confirms focus in the viewfinder I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I did have a 400d before I guess im just used to the wee beep going off all the time,But ive tried using the camera for a while without the beep and im slowly getting used to it.

Matthew, a couple of things you could try,

The beep won't sound if using AI Servo focus mode. And re: the custom settings, you can set the camera back to default settings at any time via the menu. Page 45 of your manual.
