help on lens choice

Hi all, would like opinions on the canon 24-70L f2.8 for my 450D which as you know has a crop factor of 1.6. Does this work well or could anyone suggest an alternative whether it be a canon lens or other make. Main interests at the moment are landscape and old buildings both inside and out although I take anything if it catches the eye. Would appreciate your help on this as I am realey stuck as to what to get.
Many thanks.

Well it's a nice lens with good performance, perhaps Canons best standard zoom, after all it's the most expensive, but also consider the 24 - 105mm IS L (the one to choose will keep you awake at night!), however at the moment theres a caveat, at the moment there are loads of rumours of both lenses being relaunched with the new hybrid IS system which will affect secondhand prices if you don't want to buy new.

Just add even more confusion the Sigma 24 - 70mm f/2.8 is a good performer on a crop frame for a very reasonable price, and there's an HSM version which no one seems to know much about.

sorry if that's confused you even more, but there really isn't an easy clear cut choice, the 24 - 70mm L is a great lens, especially on a FF camera or if you're planning to upgrade to one, but on a crop frame camera the performance of other lenses at cheaper prices make it more difficult to recommend it without reservation

Many thanks for your help flake, it is a bit of an expensive maze, will maybe hold on as you say to see if the price comes down if canon launch a new set of lenses
