Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM opinions please

It is funny how when you get a little more serious about your photography how you quickly realise th elimitations fo your equipment. to that end i am looking for a decent 30mm fast aperture lens for indoor use and landscapes etc. it is for my EOS 60d,

the general opinion i have gleaned so far has been for the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM. this is about the top end of my budget really and looks like the lens for me but i like to get my opinions from different sources so wondered if any of you had used this lens?

Sorry, Nikon man myself, but I totally know what you mean about the equipment. I thought I wouldn't need anything other than my Tamron 18-270mm. Now I've got a Tamron 10-24mm and a really lovely Nikon 35mm f/1.8 - and I'm looking to get a big 500mm+ lens soon

Couldn't see a prime under 50mm for Canon reviewed on here, but I did see this: http://www.dpreview.com/news/1103/11...amyang35mm.asp

Sigma make great lenses that can be almost as good as the camera produces own lenses, and in some cases even better. I'm a Nikon user with a Sigma 50-500mm F4-6.3 which produces cracking shot and worth every penny I paid for it. With reviews you need to take the middle line, as no matter how good a lens is some people will say it's rubbish. As it's cheaper than Canon's version doesn't mean it isn't a good lens. Go for it and you will be amazed at what you achive.

me too

I have have similarly been making the decision of the sigma 30 1.4 vs the canon 28 1.8. My intent for this is low light photography, normal lens on 7d crop. From what I have read both have excellent image quality. The sigma 30 does not suffer the MF 2 step quirks of its wide angle siblings.

The biggest difference I can find is the sigma is an "ef-s" lens and therefore will not work on an FF like 5d. For this reason (and only this reason) I am favoring the canon 28. I dont have an FF yet but may see one in my future so I want a compatible lens.

Price-wise they are pretty comparable, but the prices on the canon lenses keep rising due to the earthquake. I decided to wait it out and get it later. I hope this can help you a little too.
