Hi, yes this is a captive bird, 34 years old and in wonderful condition. We were lying in a ditch full of snow at the edge of a ride through the forest to get the right background as the bird flew across in front of us and landed on a boulder. It was a blizzard in the morning but had almost stopped snowing in the afternoon when these shots were taken.

It was very cold, and when the snow got into boots and gloves it melted. Breathing on the back of the camera steamed up everything so I couldn't see through the viewfinder.

But it was brilliant photography. These were the only tame wildlife we saw, we had to climb to see ptarmigan and arctic hares.

I will put some more images up soon.
