Who has decided to enter? I am going to enter but feel I have a lot less shots to enter than I did last year. I hope there is a category for mobile phone photos and maybe an urbex category. It would be nice to have one dedicated to long exposures too.

All of the excellent suggestions from last year have been totally ignored, including yours here, much to the huge detriment of the competition. I wonder what is the point of asking for feedback if you're not going to listen to the people who take part.

There is still time I think for them to add some new categories, because I am sure the portfolio category never appeared until about half-way through last year. Thanks for the comment about the cooling tower, its the only industrial shot my Mum has ever liked of mine too :-)

You're right. The Portfolio category was added later.

I'm now beginning to think, that it was a cynical 'testing of the waters,' to see if people were prepared to pay, even when the prize money was relatively low.
And they were! I among them. But that was on a voluntary basis, and people who could not, or would not 'pay for the privilege' could still enter the main competition.

I'm undecided. Not due to the cost of entering, but mainly because I'm fairly new to photography, and would rather wait until I have a decent enough portfolio to enter.

I don't have much of a frame of reference regarding previous entry fees or categories, but it strikes me that £10 to enter up to 50 images to a renowned photography competition isn't much at all...

And the numbers were the lowest of any other round, in fact I recall no more than around 200 portfolios were entered.

Of course ten quid is not much and entering is a good learning curve. Don't let lack of experience stop you! You've got months to build up a portfolio, and months to enter. You used to be able to change your entries if you had something better to offer and I think that probably hasn't changed.
