Why limit the number of posts to a measly one image per day - what we need are more images in the galleries not less - variety and not good quality " sameness" - the unique top quality image will always stand out - but finding it with a poor browsing system is the proplem here surely.

The max size of each post is what should be limited - not the quantity of postings - this would serve two important purposes - firstly it would speed up the gallery viewing (no improvement over the old DCM site here despite the promises - WHERE IS THE GOOD OLD SLIDESHOW VIEW ? ) - and secondly - it may appease the worries some people have regarding plagerism of their photographs - smaller files are less likely to be used or abused - hence putting the tiresome "terms and condition" arguement out of business - but maybe the powers that be want huge 5Mb images for publishing purposes - or am I being rather cynical now - either way- I for one want MORE images to browse through - as in my opinion - that should be the main purpose of any good gallery driven photographic website.

Please give us a decent SLIDESHOW viewing system - like the previous site had - so we can keep searching for those eye catching unique and quality images - then we can enjoy the "visual" stimulous our common hobby can occasionally give us - and we can thus comment upon - there are many great special images out there in the mass of "sameness".

So how about it Admin - an introduction of a good SLIDESHOW for easier browsing purposes - then the comments may start to return.

PS - Removal of the "spambox" - would also assist.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your comments - the spambot box removal is something that has been discussed previously, we are looking at removing the box at some point.

As for a slideshow feature, this is something we are considering moving forward, however we have no plans to limit the uploads to one per day.

Thanks,

Amy

You have 2,965 active members, if only 10% post images on the gallery and are restricted to one a day that's nearly 300 new images every day, who has got the time to look at that many picturess, let alone comment?

As a matter of interest the site has been going for some 30 odd days now, perhaps a little longer with the Beta period included, with some 7896 images posted, average 263 a day, just below the 300 figure mentioned above and the comment ratio is abysmally low even on that figure. Perhaps one every two days would be more appropriate!!

Do you have any statistics as to how many individuals contributed to that figure of 7896?

Abers,

I'll look into that figure for you.

However, with regard to your idea of restricting the number of images posted, we just don't think this will work. For example if I don't post all week because I'm busy, and I have a few images I'd like to post, with a restriction of 1 per day, I wouldn't be able to post them all up on Sunday evening when I've got a few minutes spare - we think this is probably how a lot of our users like to operate.

However, changing the way the gallery displays images - meaning that only the recently changed albums will appear is something we are considering going forward.

I hope you can appreciate this, and also appreciate that it would be difficult to please every member's requests.

Thanks,

Amy

Amy

Thanks for the reasoning behind the 'post as many as you like' decision, I'm not fussed one way or the other. All I'm trying to do is suggest ways of improving the ratio of comments to postings and you won't do that unless the images posted are worth commenting on.

How many photographers on here can take more than a couple of images a week that are worthy of comment. Surely it's better to present one reasonable image than a whole raft of mediocre ones.

I suppose I come from the old school of film photography where producing more than one decent image a week was considered an achievement. C'est la vie.

Well replied Amy - and please treat the introduction of a SLIDESHOW viewer and the removal of the spambot box as a priority.

And very true - "That's Life" - Welcome to the 21st Century.

When you do find an image that's worthy of a comment and you try to make it, it's like filling in your tax return. No wonder hardly anybody bothers.

Hi Abers,

As has been said a number of times now, we appreciate that the spambot box is annoying, and this is something we are looking into removing.

Thanks for your patience,

Amy

I think that the thumb nail view that we get on the user photos section puts a lot of people off viewing images. I compose my images in the view finder or crop them later for the impact that I want, usually a ratio of 3:2, they are not organised to provide interest in a (very small) square format.
I much prefared the smaller scale full image views of the DCM Site.
