Hi everyone

I sure do hope that someone can help me I am a begginer busy with studies and practicals I have a canon 500D and I need to lenses a wide shot lens and a macro lens I want to specilize in wedding fotography there are so many lenses that I don't know what to choose can some one please tell me which lenses will be perfect for weddings and what other gear do I need for wedding fotography to get the perfect picture

hello there,

if you want to do wedding photography id suggest one wide ish angle lens. what came with your camera??? and then a decent zoom something like a 18-250 if your on a budjet and if your not a 70-200 L, possible a 50mm prime im not sure, i dont think youd really have much use for a macro lens in thse situations, and probably a decent flash gun for some shots, you can get one for around 100 quid these days, thats proably the basics, there will eb other people who can advise for more advanced gear,

Thanks dan the reason why I want a macro lens is for the detail it's just a bit easier to get a good shot of the smaller detail of the wedding and a wide lens for a good close up bit still a bigger picture but thanks you really helped alot

Hi Bernice, just a quick word of advice, but wide angle lenses aren't great for close up portraits as the wider the lens the more perspective there will be. So if you take a shot of someone face with a wide angle lens, the image will show them having an enormous nose and tiny ears. With your cropped sensor camera, a 50mm lens should give you an actual focal length of around 80mm which is ideal for portraits. I think Canon do a 50mm f/1.8 II at under £100 that should be ideal or a 50mm f/2.5 Macro for about £225 - £250ish.

For weddings it's also useful to have a telephoto zoom. They start from about £220 but a really good one could set you back nearly £1000. Best start saving your pennies now!

Thanks for all the advice I really appreciate it. I went and read the advise you have given in the past and do agree with alot of things at this stage in my photography life I am now where close to starting with weddings on my own but I am shadowing a few weddings where ever I can and I tell the bride the truth from the get go I am still studing and I use every oppertunity I possibly can to take pictures and to get to know my camera and equipment. And at the same time I want to get all my equipment so when I do start doing weddings I know I can because I have the right equipment I dont belive in charging people if you cant deliver a good product. I dont take photography very lightly I think it is a very serious and technical job and you make or brake a wedding by what you do. Fortunatly I have a bit of experience in wedding planning etc so I use that as a background and as a guideline in what it takes to plan a wedding shoot.
