Smile Urban Light Trails

After reading the great Technique article on Urban Night scenes I wanted to give it a go.

FYI http://www.photoradar.com/techniques...rails?page=0,2

I took the great advice from PhotoRadar experts to get the Lumix TZ10, which I am training myself up on. I wanted to go out to take some of these photos. Shutter Speed on this camera goes from 8 to 1/2000. Is that going to be enough to capture the sort of scenes discussed in the article mentioned? If it comes to it I can borrow my mum's DSLR but I also don't think that has a Remote Release or a Lense Hood, plus I won't have it during travelling!

All advice appreciated

8 seconds may be too short for a full night scene..... depends on the amount of light around, both artificial or ambient. I'm not familiar with the TZ10 but I just found it on the Panasonic site and it says the shutter speed is 60seconds up to 1/2000th and also has "Starry Sky" setting that has 15, 30 and 60 seconds. I don't know the price but if the lens is good it looks like a very decent camera.

Hi there,

I just looked at the Panasonic site and saw this in the specs:

Starry Sky Mode : 15, 30, 60sec

Maybe check that setting out?
