450D/SD Card Problems ???

My wife uses a 450D, just recently we have had a problem with viewing the photographs on the cameras LCD screen, on certain shots it cannot find the photograph, but when you put the card in the card reader on the PC they all come up.Put the same card back in the camera to view on the LCD, and certain photographs are not found, but not necessarily the same shots as before. We have just been on a three day shoot and she has used three 2gig cards, this problem has occurred on two out of the three cards.Has anyone had the same problem, and have they found that it is a fault on the camera or card.Hope you can assist...

Thankyou

Alex.

Very strange, just one idea when you have got the photos off the card do you format them in the camera?

I know sometimes cameras can have issues if the pictures are erased or modified on the card from a device other than the camera i.e. a computer.

Just a thought.

It's possible that you have more than one folder on your memory card, but only the current folder images will be shown on the cameras LCD screen. This happens when you have passed 9999 on a D3 but may be 999 on your camera, as after that number it reverts back to 1 and to avoid overwritting a pervious number 1, it creates a new folder.

I second this. Format the cards in the camera and see if the problem clears.

Thank you for your interest and replies, we have taken note of what you have all said and we will now go through the process once again and see what happens, what we do know is that there are more photo's that cannot be displayed than those that we have actually deleted in camera. We only reformat once we have backed up the files on the PC.Also we always shut down the camera before removing the card,we also do this on the PC, before removing the card from the card reader.
Once again thank you..

Alex/Angela.

Once you have copied photos to the PC, reformat the card when you put it back in the camera, do not bother to delete the photos. Reformatting will clear any file system problems. It is also faster than deleting photos.

Perhaps some images are being shot as RAW files, while others are shot as jpegs? I have this problem when I use the full manual settings on the camera and then change to fully automatic, with the same memory card still in the camera. Only some of the images are viewable. I tend to create a new folder on my desktop first and then open the card reader device using 'Computer' and 'removable devices' on the PC, copying all the images into the folder.

However, my model is the 400D which uses a compact flash memory card as opposed to the SD one.

Regards,
Denise
