No Canon at Focus on Imaging 2011

So, Canon has pulled out of Focus, 2 weeks before the show opens its doors. How does everyone feel about that? Were you planning on going, based on Canon being there?

They did the same thing with PMA last year (though not at such short notice), so it isn't a surprise and I'm sure their competition will love the decision. It won't directly affect me as I don't have anything in the budget for buying from them this year, but I do like the opportunity to try new gear out, and that usually leads to future purchases.

it's a shame but won't make any difference to me as I wouldn't be looking at the canon stuff anyway. I wonder why they chose to do that given it's the biggest show in the UK.

If this is the largest show in the UK, that seems an odd choice. Anyone know what their fiscal year is? Perhaps they needed to cut come costs quickly to make the quarter/half/year look better.

Well, they're planning Pro Photo 2011 and they're really pushing the EOS 600D a lot. It was in AP last week on the first 4 pages past the contents. Even before the news!

It's the "ongoing marketing plans" thing that makes me wonder what they're planning....

Won't affect me specifically at Focus though.

Perhaps Nikon has scared them off!

Well that is an odd thing to do, by their marketing people, especially people used to hang out on the Canon stands like drove of bees round a honey pot.

Leaving it to some of their retailers to take over the deal, you have to be joking. First you do not get a qualified answer to your questions. They will be far too busy on the day selling gear and that is all their interested in. I remember arriving really early on opening day and the sales people at Jacobs where so disorganised the sales people did not even know how operate the tills. Had no interest talking to you, as they were more interest in selling you stuff.

Shame, i wanted dto look at the Canon Pro9500 printers, as I can not decide between Epson and Canon. I am not that keen on Epson, as they always break down. So this sucks and this is strange.

Cameras I m not to bother about, I prefer to shoot with Nikon anyway. it is personal choice, nothing more.
