Format International photography festival

This looks an amazing festival. It is running from 4th March to the 3rd of April. One of its patron's this year is Joel Meyerowitz. Some fabulous exhibitions and master classes running by some of the top names in contemporary photography.

I have just booked my tickets for the Joel Meyerowitz talk which is taking place on the 6th March. He is going to be talking about his street photography and his future work. I am unbelievably excited! :-) Chris-steel-perkins is there on the 5th doing talk which I am considering too.

I've decided to give focus on imaging a miss and go to this instead. Its being held in Derby.

Thanks both :-)

I am tempted by this too - http://bit.ly/hcluJj. It looks a great a master class and something I know I could really benefit from. The amount of photography on exhibition by so many photographers is fantastic!

Hi everyone,

There's a slideshow of images from some of the photographers at FORMAT here:

Really hope to be able to get up to Derby at some point during the month to see some of it, and also looking forward to the London Street Photography festival later in the year along with the Sony World Photography Festival too - so many festivals... so little time

Apparently Wednesday is late night until 9pm at the Quad gallery where a lot of the photography is being exhibited. I am going along on Sunday to a talk but want to get back in the week sometime to have a good look around. I also want to see the others you mentioned.

I went back to Derby today to see some more of the format festival and would really encourage everyone to go as the photography on display is just brilliant and everything is within walking distance of each other in the Cathedral quarter in Derby.

Here are a couple of shots. The first one being the outdoor space being used for a Magnum exhibition.

Inside the Quad gallery. Visitors looking at the photographs on display.

Hi Karen,

I should be going at the end of the month.

It's my mum's birthday on the 27th so I'll be in Birmingham anyway - not such a trek over to Derby for the day that way

Can't wait!

You will really like it, Amy. It wasnt quite as big as I thought it would be but there was more than enough to fill a whole day. The Quad gallery had lots of photographs and some of the galleries had video installations. One was a slideshow of Peter Dench photographs and that took us 30mins+ to watch. All the other stuff was within walking distance, mostly empty shops that had been taken over and used as galleries and the other place was Derby Museum. Magum had an outside space which has some great photos. I bought the offical catalogue but would warn you it was £24.50 and I am not sure it was worth the money. Its softback and quite small. I wanted it to remember some of the names whose work I really liked and I suppose if you take into account all the galleries were free entry its not that bad.
