Battery grips

Hi all

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Battery-grip-f...09430771709593

Does anyone know if these non Canon battery grips from Ebay are any good? I would like to buy one but want something that is good and matches well with the body of the camera. Has anyone ever bought one of these and if so... ok or steer clear?

If the latter, would you just recommend a canon one and if so do you know where to get one?

Thanks

I cannot comment of the various ebay offerings, however when I had my 40D I had the canon one which I loved.

I have a 7D now and also have the original canon one but since have read positive reviews about the Hahnel battery grip which is a lot cheaper in one review it came out better than the Canon one.

Sorry I cannot be specific about the one you pointed us at but I will say that as well as offering more shooting time with the camera a battery grip does effect the overall balance of the camera and also offers and additional shutter button when shooting in portrait so you want it to feel comfortable and solid.

I've used non-Canon grips before with no problems but they've always had a manufacturer badge on them (even if not a big name!) - your eBay one has nothing. There are good non-Canon grips and there are rubbish ones!

I've a 7D and unfortunately there weren't 3rd party grips around so I got a Canon - which is OK but expensive (like the OEM batteries! )

personally I think £26.00 is too good to be true .My grip for a 50 d cost ££99.00 last year and it came from pc world of all places .My advice pay a bit more .(I note it says no refund unless unless faulty)

That does seem very cheap.

I'm not a Canon user, but I have had two battery grips for my Pentaxes from eBay. The first one for my K20D was a Phottix, and reasonable brand name, but it has never worked reliably.

My second one, for my K5, I have had about a month. It is unbranded, but much higher quality. It was also somewhat more expensive, although not anywhere near the £200 for an OEM one.

The Canon grips do seem to be a lot cheaper, perhaps because they are not weather proof and have fewer functions. The shop I got my latest grip from have Canon ones too - like HERE . They gave a good service, sent the grip recorded and it arrived in less than 2 weeks, which I thought was pretty good.

Hope you manage to get a good deal.
