Tree in local rail station car park

Hello to all,

I am fairly new to the site and brand new to the forum so please be gentle

I have what I believe is a called a "cross-over" camera at the moment (Fuji Finepix 6.3MP S6500FD) which is a great little camera having paid just under £150.00 for it a few years ago when I was just a casual photographer.

I am now looking to enhance my skills and push the camera to it's limit and try to get the best shots I can out of it before I move onto a full blown D-SLR (I'm thinking Nikon D3100 at the moment)...

I have uploaded a number of shots to my photo page but thought it might be worth posting the latest one here for feedback (good or bad is welcome as any will help me to improve).

It was taken yesterday as a potential competition entry that Amateur Photographer are running based on shooting trees. It has had a little post processing to darken the shadows and try and lift the highlights a bit, oh and of course to turn in black and white.

To be honest, Michael I just think the shot is too busy in that there is no real point of focus. Trees are hard to photograph but when done well can be totally beautiful. I do like the procssing though and varying shades. Have a look at these tree photos by Michael Kenna for some ideas?

Btw,. that is just my personal preference and opinion. Someone else might come along and totally love the shot for their own reasons. Its all subjective at the end of the day :-)

Kenna's good, but with a bit more practice he could be great

Whilst your tree Zigga is certainly a tree, it hasn't got anything that makes it different from other trees, and that's the trick, but your tree is certainly a starting point for you.

Thanks for the links, I see what you mean about the shot being too busy and no real point of focus.

I'll certainly take this on board and post a few more efforts.

BTW - Michael Kenna's tree shots are awesome, certainly take some inspiration from those, thanks!
