Worth a shot I think.
Thanks wavemachine for your interest. I cannot get to the shutter on this camera as it is sealed. Well, there are tiny screws all over the place but I wouldn't know where to begin and I don't have the tools or the skill. I have tried a different card as well, just to see if I had been using a corrupted one but to no avail. I see the pink stain is now getting worse and is virtually covering the whole image.
I think that I will say farewell when the dustman calls on Thursday. So sad. I've come over all dewy eyed.
PS I've got two batteries Cannon N8-1LH which if anyone can use I will be more than happy to send if you pay the postage.
I have a little Leica D-Lux3 which is superb and can take splendid pictures but I will miss the eyepiece on the Cannon and it was so petite

Not the internal shutter. There may be one or two plastic doors that close over the front element of the lens when the camera is turned off. Check those, not inside the camera (it doesn't have a physical shutter in the traditional sense anyway).

I checked the outer doors and they are going back and forth perfectly, just as they always have. Thanks again.
