Save Our Forests

On the 2nd Feb This Wednesday there is a crunch vote in Parliament. MPs will vote on a motion demanding a rethink of plans to sell our national forests.

If enough of us contact our MPs now, we've got a real chance of winning this vote! So let’s make sure MPs are getting thousands of messages with one very clear request: vote to save our forests this Wednesday.

It's quick and easy to email your MP, click here to send them a message:
http://www.38degrees.org.uk/tell-you...ve-our-forests

This vote was announced on Friday - it's only happening thanks to everything we have done together to stand up for our public forests. The motion itself says that, "over 225,000 people have signed a petition against such a sell-off"! [1] It's even more proof that our campaign is working and that if we keep going we can win.

On Wednesday morning, MPs will open up newspapers to find full-page Save our Forests adverts – paid for by thousands of us. Let’s back this powerful message in the media with an avalanche of emails to MPs from local voters urging them to do the right thing.

We’re close, and together, we can win this. Please take a moment to email your MP now:

Please contact your MP NOW.

While I hope that there will be no sale at all, I'm not too optimistic, OldBoy.

The strip mining of this nation, its assets and natural resources began decades ago. Our energy, water and transportation is all in private hands now, resulting in massively higher prices and crappier service (or as poor). I think the government will sell some of the woodland, with some stipulations designed to appease those that object. Either way, it will find its way into private hands that will find loopholes in the stipulations.

I could be wrong but, no private interest is going to buy the land, unless its going to be profitable for them to do so. That'll either come from the public paying in some form, building something on the land, or making use of the wood or other resources on the land.

I have just received an email from my MP's office to say they received my email, and they are snowed under with correspondence concerning this subject, and that my MP will respond to me a.s.p. That's good news, as it shows people are not letting go lightly. I think the Forestry Commission has done an incredible job since its formation in 1919, though it has evolved quite a bit since then. I see no reason for this non ministerial department to be disbanded to be honest, other than to hand our heritage back to the land barons for whatever purpose they want to put it to. But we shouldn't let this take our eye off the political ball, as it is my opinion that changes to the way health management in the NHS is to be handed to GP's will also make poorer surgeries across the country unable to offer expensive treatments to patients. We are in for some major changes to lifestyle in this country I think!

Done last night too, still waiting for my MP to wake up - perhaps I will send a few messages to his personal webpage as well.

Regards,
Denise
