One benefit I've found though is that clip-board mongers do seem to avoid people carrying large cameras around their neck.

I don't know if they assume I'm working or I'm a tourist or something, but I've seen a couple of them start to walk over to me to say something, glance down and clock the camera and walk off in another direction...

When I first read this I wasnt sure if it bothered you that people thought you were an editior (which I dont think it did). Conisdering you were weilding a professional camera set up its a reasonable mistake or conclusion for people to draw..Your picture here makes you look like a seasoned pro (thats meant in the nicest possible way)

For what its worth you do look very much like a pro (which I assume you are) and you may well have been recognised from your picture here and just misplaced posistion wise i.e they thought you were somone else professionally speaking.

Personally I have been called a lot worse than an editor in my time and its rather flattering that you were recognised..

I was more amused at the coincidence of being thought I looked like the editor of a magazine which has connections to the website I use.

I'm not a professional, though I do semi-professional work in my spare time.

Probably recognise the camera and it's video capability - don't want to be filmed or recorded

Phil, I think people are more paranoid about photography than they used to be.
Amy, those people are a real pain! In Wrexham last week we stopped by Sky, then some guy selling lottery tickets for a charity we'd never heard of. A woman who claimed she was doing market research with a clipboard yet it turned out she was just trying to get people to sign up to a catalogue and later on by someone from talk talk trying to get us to swap telephone providers! :-) Maybe next time I see them I will stick my camera around my neck!

I've actually got no issues with the paparazzi. I just think they are trying to do a very difficult job and I know they are intrusive sometimes but its the nature of their work.

I've found that pointing a camera at them is a very effective way of getting rid of pestering time-share sellers - strange how they go all coy
