Canon Predictions for 2011

Coming from the 7D, I would like to see a few 7D features incorporated into the 5D Mark III.
1. Viewfinder grid display. Comes in handy
2. Slight increase in frames per second.
3. 19 point autofocus
4. 7D style finger grip on 5D III body. Very comfortable.

It looks like Canon might be making the 5D MKIII a bit more high end (I won't be surprised if they call it the 6D). From the rumours I've seen the 5D MKIII will have an improved version of the 7D's AF system and probably even more megapixels for the sensor. It might be delayed due to Canon's manufacturing woes.

I don't see the need in replacing the 1000D as match14 said. I would love to see some cheaper lenes though, as some of them are stupidly expensive :]

I'd like to see more L Series lenses aimed at APS-C users - sure, telephoto/zooms get longer on APS-C which is good but I'd really like a 10-20mm type L lens. At the moment, the shortest L Series still equates to a 'standard' zoom.

Looks like Canon will be replacing the 1000D at some point this year, new digic processor and a slight megapixel bump. The 600D is also rumoured. The 1000D is lagging behind in the useful features count. Mostly the AF system, the 400D's is far better. That's one of my back up bodies.

As much as I'd love to see an APS-C L lens, it's not going to happen. Given the mystique and attached price premium L Series Lenses have, Canon won't do it. The best thing to happen will be Canon getting the costs of producing Full Frame sensors down, so they can release an entry level full frame camera at some point in the not too distant future. That will then open up the L Series range.

I've got the Canon EF 70-200 f/4 USM L, it's my walkabout lens and suits most of my purposes. I will be getting a wide angle lens at some point probably the Canon 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM or one of the Tamron's or i will simply get the 17-40mm f/4 L lens and put up with it's shortcomings. L series lenses are addictive! Once you buy one, you want them all.
